#22 w-report's Hotel Picks of 2024

Between the two of us, the Ws visited dozens of hotels last year. These twenty, our TOP OF THE POPS, are the ones that we can't stop thinking about.

We love a pool in the middle of a vineyard. (Antje jumping for joy at the Hotel Schwarzschmied in Lana, South Tyrol).

Happy holidays dear Readers! I hope you have all managed to relax and recover from a year that many of us have found at its best, pretty overwhelming and at its worst, almost impossible to navigate. We are not huge fans of making New Year’s resolutions but one thing we know for sure : in 2025 we hope to keep exploring and following our curiosity. And of course, we will continue to share our travel knowledge with you.

Related to 2025 news: Our friend the artist and hat maker Maryam Keyhani and Gisela are starting MANY HATS, a supportive and inclusive “community center” of sorts that will, for the most part, take place in her shop in Prenzlauer Berg, and offer all sorts of informative and fun workshops, from crafting for kids, to learning more about ADHD. For those of you that live in Berlin, give us a shout and we’ll add you to the Whatsapp Group.

In the meantime, we will DREAM of future adventures. To inspire those collective travel fantasies, our gift to you for the start of 2025 is our list of favorite hotels that we experienced in 2024.

GISELAS’S TOP 10

NOTE: I have chosen my top 10 based on the fact that I especially love small independent hotels that feel like the dream version of HOME, but with the service of a great hotel. I’m always quite price conscious but more than several of these choices are splurges.

HOTEL SANDERS, Copenhagen, DENMARK: Hands down, my favorite hotel in Copenhagen. So stylish, so cozy. My favorite hotels feel like a much more elevated version of home and Hotel Sanders is THE perfect example. It’s also incredibly well located near picturesque Nyhaven canal and the Kunsthalle Charlottenborg. (I stayed here when I reported this story for T about one of my favorite restaurants in Europe, which is right around the corner.) In the winter, the lobby—with all its glowing lit candles and fireplace— is the kind of place you’ll want to spend hours, reading and ordering cappuccinos and/or Champagne; in the summer the outdoor tables lining the front of the building are always heaving with the coolest locals and travelers. Make sure to take breakfast on the rooftop terrace, a whole other chill-out atmosphere, filled with ferns and leafy plants. Rates start at around 350 euros.

Excited to arrive at Hotel Sanders; one of the comfortable beds at Hotel Sanders.
